Christmas is a time of reflection. We land in darkness at the end of the calendar year, often stressed, burned out, and short on time, finances, and patience. To answer some of this angst, we fill our homes and our towns with tiny lights, garland, and bows. We decorate festively and spend our dwindling resources on gift-giving, party-planning, and magic-making, all while craving simplicity and rest. If we are honest, oftentimes the Advent season or the weeks leading up to Christmas is when we are at our most vulnerable. What a gift then to realize that the birth of Jesus is one wide lesson in the gift of vulnerability.
You are invited to an Advent art show, featuring the visual art and meditations of a local artist and writer Scott Erickson. Please join us in the Meridian United Church of Christ Chapel Library for a time of reflection and contemplation as you walk through artistic renderings of the Advent season and read the reflections that accompany each piece. This is an “enjoy at your own pace” event and will be mostly quiet and self-led. Coffee and light refreshments will be offered, as well as an optional hands-on element just up the stairs. This event is offered to all members of the Wilsonville community and beyond, regardless of your own spiritual leanings or religious beliefs. All are invited into the beauty of this season. We hope to see you there!
